DownloadJoining The Royal Marines Association (RMA) is free and helps The RMAGS
RMA membership is not required to join RMAGS and whether we choose to join or not is entirely our own decision. RMAGS encourage RMA membership because of the obviuos benefits membership brings and it also helps our society when seeking support as a sports branch of the RMA.
The RMA and The Roayal Marines Charity have been amalgamted
In the past few years there have been many positive changes around the RMA and it is now almalgamated with The Royal Marines Charity. As a result of these changes there is some understandable confusion around membership so here is the up-to-date (2020) situation
If you would like to join the RMA, or just check whether you are already a member, just hit the button below which takes you to the relevant RMA website page. Here, all will be explained including the types of membership available and how to check if you are already a member
The Wyvern Trophy
The Wyvern Trophy is competed for each year by members of the RMA GS. To enter the competition entrants must be members of RMA GS and must have donated (previously paid a subscription) to the RMA. The trophy was presented to RMA GS in 2017 by George Martin to mark his retirement from over 52 years of military and civil service. He served 22 years with the Royal Marines before transferring to the Army. He was commissioned into the Army attaining the rank of Major before arriving at Wyvern Barracks in Exeter as a member of the senior management team. The Wyvern is the mythical beast of Wessex – another name for the South West Region. The Wyvern is also the Tac Patch of the 43rd Wessex Division, a TA unit of the South West that has a particularly famous reputation in Normandy. George served in the 43rd (Wessex) Brigade for over 20 years.
The West Country 100 (WC 100) is a select group of 100 business leaders in the South West of England, who come together and have a desire to enhance support for Royal Marines, past, present and future – who find themselves in need through injury, illness and hardship. Through the channel provided by RMA – The Royal Marines Charity, members of the WC 100 direct their good works, time, fundraising and awareness activity plus membership support to directly help members of the Royal Marines family who need our help today.
Playing off 22 George was a founder member of the society. He was the Events Coordinator for 4 years before handing over to David (Atko). George is now handling memberships as well as maintaining handicaps. George joined the corps on 12th January 1965. After trainiing he joined the Signals branch. Rising to the rank of Warrant Officer 2 Yeoman of Signals he transferred to the army in 1987. George continued his career in the services completing a total of 52 years 2 months and 19 days before retiring in 2017. On his retirement, George presented the Wyvern Trophy to the society. The trophy is played for annually at the first game of the season.

The RMA Gig Club is a virtual branch of the RMA-TRMC and the objectives are to promote, teach, and facilitate the sport of Cornish Pilot Gig Rowing, both competitive and recreational. The Club is open to all serving, retired and any other supporting members of the RMA-TRMC. At present we meet three to four times a week rowing out of the Mount Batten Watersports Centre, Plymstock, Plymouth, and take part in as many regatta’s and events as possible. Rowing a 32 foot gig in ‘open’ water can be challenging and demanding. Taster sessions are held as an introduction to Cornish Pilot Gigs, instruction on the basic rowing techniques and then a session out in Plymouth Sound mixed in with some of our more experienced rowers – A Monthly donation is made to the RMA which means no extra cost for scheduled rowing, which also facilitates maintenance and other administrative costs. For more information contact the Gig Club Secretary Nick Simpkins.
Our club was formed in 2019 with the aim of actively encouraging our military veterans, serving military, their family and supporters to participate in a sporting activity while forging strong bonds of friendship and camaraderie.
The club is open to all serving and retired members of the Royal Marines Association-The Royal Marines Charity (RMA-TRMC) and veterans from all of the Services as well as civilians wanting to share our love of a great sport.
